STOCKPORT 100

It's 1908 and the opening of Stockport’s Town Hall.
Imagine how you would feel as you wait in the crowd to see the royal procession pass by . . .

It's 1932 and you are going to see the first show at Stockport's Plaza Cinema.
Picture yourself in the queue as you wait for your ticket . . .

These are just two of the exciting events that have helped shape
Stockport and made it what it is today.

100 STORIES FOR STOCKPORT
Monday 19 May, Thursday 12 June, Tuesday 19 August
12 noon - 4pm

As part of our Stockport 100 exhibition we’re inviting all local residents to leave stories and memories from the last 100 years by writing them down, recording them or even creating some visual imagery to illustrate the tale. Please feel free to bring a photograph that may have a story behind it!

ORIGINS OF MELLOR FAMILY DAY
Saturday 16 August
11am - 4pm

Come and celebrate the redisplaying of Stockport Story’s archaeological collection in the Origins Gallery, with lots of activities and costumed characters to meet along the way!

Please look out for archaeological talks and activities throughout the month of August!

WORKSHOPS

ILLUMINATING MANUSCRIPTS
Tuesday 27 May
Morning session: 10am - 12 noon (4 - 7 years)
Afternoon session: 1pm - 3pm
(8 - 11 years)

Create a historic manuscript with illuminated coloured lettering and turn it into an authentic scroll with ribbon and a stamped seal.

A fun afternoon of activities for all the family.
Are you a child of the 50s and 60s or were you born in the 80s and 90s?
Come to the museum and see the differences between these two eras – what people ate, how they dressed and what was fashionable at the time. If you have a photograph of yourself, bring it along and we’ll scan it and then add you to our special photo-exhibition wall.

Create a medieval castle using a shoe box, paint and card and lots of imagination.
